“The government is currently considering an initiative to merge the regional development and infrastructure portfolios and will formally withdraw the existing bill from Parliament,” stated the government’s Parliamentary Secretary Vakhtang Bachiashvili.
Bachiashvili noted that the Prime Minister will decide who will head the newly unified ministry.
“Next week, the government will submit new amendments providing for the consolidation of the two ministries into a single entity. The decision on who will serve as minister rests with the Prime Minister. The government is working towards a regional development model that will better serve the governance and development of the regions,” Bachiashvili stated.
