Speaker Papuashvili: On behalf of the Bureau, I thank Mamuka Mdinaradze for his years of service to Parliament and the Government

A legislative package amending the mandate and operational framework of the Government of Georgia has been formally submitted to the Parliamentary Bureau, with the Regional Policy Committee designated as the lead committee for consideration.

“This initiative relates to modifying the institutional framework for managing regional policy within the Government of Georgia. While the issue remains active for the government, work is underway on a revised structure that will be presented as a new legislative proposal in the near future. Consequently, there is no need to proceed with the current package, much less under an expedited procedure, and I ask that this be taken into account,” stated the government’s Parliamentary Secretary, Vakhtang Bachiashvili.

Clarifying the procedure during the Bureau meeting, the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, noted that the current package must be formally withdrawn as an alternative model is under consideration.

“As announced from the outset, plans are in place to abolish the State Minister post coordinating law-enforcement agencies, forgo the establishment of a State Minister for regional affairs, and proceed with merging the Ministry of Regional Development with the Ministry of Infrastructure. The government is currently deliberating these points. A fresh legislative package will be submitted by the government ahead of the upcoming sitting week,” Papuashvili explained.

The Speaker expressed gratitude to Mamuka Mdinaradze for his dedicated service over the years.

“These institutional adjustments were originally tailored around the role Mamuka Mdinaradze was set to assume within the government, following his decision announced several days ago. A Member of Parliament since 2016, a Bureau member, and former leader of both the faction and majority, Mdinaradze’s departure is deeply regretted. On behalf of the Bureau, I wish to extend our sincere thanks to him for his years of service in Parliament and his significant contribution to the executive branch. I wish him every success in all his future endeavours,” Papuashvili concluded.
