UNM Chair anticipates PACE to restrict Ivanishvili’s delegation

“The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will implement sanctions against members of Ivanishvili’s delegation, restricting their participation and membership in committees,” said Tina Bokuchava, Chair of the United National Movement.

According to Bokuchava, the Assembly will reconsider the Georgian delegation’s credentials during its April 2025 part-session, contingent upon the government’s appointment of new elections.

“Today, at its plenary session, the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly will vote on a resolution adopted by the Monitoring Committee, which continues the sanctions policy against Ivanishvili’s regime. After national sanctions, now sanctions from the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly will come into effect, where members of Ivanishvili’s delegation will not have the right to membership or participation in committees. They formally retain their authority until April for a single purpose: for the country to schedule new, free, fair parliamentary elections that will reflect the free will of the Georgian people. This is a huge achievement and success for Georgian democracy, for the international non-recognition of Ivanishvili’s regime, and for the sanctions policy. Ultimately, this aligns with the unified goal of the Georgian society: the release of political prisoners, the punishment of wrongdoers, and the establishment of new parliamentary elections,” stated Tina Bokuchava.

The PACE Monitoring Committee published its draft report regarding Georgia on January 28 to be voted on January 29.
