UN IMO Secretary-General: Progress achieved in Georgia’s maritime sector is fully aligned with IMO’s goals
According to the Secretary-General of the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO), Arsenio Dominguez, the progress achieved in Georgia’s maritime sector is fully aligned with the organization’s goals. Dominguez made this statement following his meeting with Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported.
He described the meeting as productive and highlighted Georgia’s active role within the IMO.
“We discussed not only the continued support that the International Maritime Organization will provide to Georgia as an active member, but also the progress the country has made in its maritime sector, which is fully consistent with our organization’s objectives,” Dominguez said.
The meeting touched on Georgia’s successful participation in current IMO-led projects, as well as ongoing reforms and trends in the maritime transport sector. Discussions also covered major infrastructure initiatives designed to further strengthen Georgia’s position as a key maritime transport hub in the region. Special attention was given to the education and certification system for Georgian seafarers.
The IMO Secretary-General positively assessed the recent achievements in Georgia’s maritime field and expressed readiness to support the country going forward.
The parties also discussed the activities of the UN and national maritime administrations, along with prospects for further development and improvement of Georgia’s maritime sector.
