“Almost half a century has passed since ‘Chakrulo’ began its journey into space; thus, unique Georgian polyphony became part of humanity’s shared message,” wrote the U.S. Embassy in Georgia on its Facebook page.

According to the U.S. Embassy post, on August 20, 1977, NASA launched the Voyager 2 spacecraft from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, carrying a “Golden Record” into deep space.

“This record represented a certain message from the Earth in case any other civilization would ever discover it. From the music, photos, and greetings recorded on it, the finder would be able to learn what the world from which this spacecraft was launched was like.

Georgian ‘Cahakrulo’ was among the samples selected by the American team. Thus, unique Georgian polyphony became part of humanity’s shared message,” the Embassy said.
