Two individuals charged with terrorism-related offenses
The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged two individuals with the illegal acquisition and possession of ammunition and explosive devices as part of an ongoing investigation into their alleged involvement with a foreign terrorist organization and support for terrorist activities.
The investigation, conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Center of the State Security Service, found that individuals with suspected ties to the terrorist organization ‘Islamic State’ were unlawfully storing ammunition and explosive devices in their homes. A search of the defendants’ residences led to the seizure of a flag bearing the symbols of the “Islamic State.’
The State Security Service continues its investigation into the alleged membership in a foreign terrorist organization and support for terrorist activities, a crime under Article 328 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, punishable by 10 to 17 years of imprisonment.
The Prosecutor’s Office has petitioned the court to impose pretrial detention on the defendants.
