Turkish Airline AJet launches direct Ankara–Tbilisi flights

Turkish low-cost carrier AJet has launched its first direct flight between Ankara and Tbilisi, operating four weekly flights on the route. AJet is a subsidiary of Turkey’s largest airline, Turkish Airlines.

The inaugural flight carried Archil Kalandia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Turkey, and Kerem Sarp, General Director of AJet, according to the United Airports of Georgia.

A reception was held at Tbilisi International Airport to mark the launch, attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili, Director General of the United Airports of Georgia Levan Moseshvili, and representatives of the Civil Aviation Agency and TAV Georgia, the operator of Tbilisi and Batumi airports.

The launch of Ankara–Tbilisi flights by AJet was first announced during the visit of the President of Georgia to Turkey and was further discussed at the Georgia–Turkey Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, co-chaired by Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili and Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure. Kvrivishvili also raised the issue during a meeting with Turkish Airlines’ senior management.

Georgia maintains the busiest air traffic with Turkey among its neighboring countries. Last year, over 1.2 million passengers traveled between the two countries, accounting for 47% of total passenger traffic between Georgia and its neighbors.

Georgian airports have also recorded significant growth this year. In the first eight months of 2025, more than 24,900 international and domestic flights were operated—15% more than during the same period in 2024. Flights now operate at all three international airports with an average weekly frequency of approximately 700. Passenger traffic reached 5,635,975 in January–August, marking a 14% increase compared to the same period last year.
