Toivo Klaar says GID's 59th round mostly covered death of Tamaz Ginturi
The 59th round of the Geneva International Discussion (GID) mostly covered the death of Tamaz Ginturi, “and what can be done and what should be done to prevent anything like that from happening again,” said Toivo Klaar, the EU special representative for the South Caucasus and crisis in Georgia.
In his remark, the EU special representative wished “we had more results after 15 years, but at the same time, it is a very important platform because it is the only platform.”
“From our side, from the co-chairs’ side, we were emphasizing that all the participants should think about how to create an atmosphere, a situation along the dividing lines, along the ABL, where people are not afraid to go to churches, to graveyards, to the orchards.
And, where they don’t risk being either apprehended or let alone shot, let alone killed. It is the only platform that we have. It is not perfect. Obviously, we have been holding these meetings for 15 years and, I think, it is fair to say that it would be good if we had more progress.
But at the same time, it is the platform that we have. And the fact that we’re able to meet here, the fact that we are able to discuss both in the meeting rooms and outside the meeting rooms. That is important in itself.,” Klaar stated.
