From the side of the EU, we believe it is very important to preserve the Geneva International Discussion format, Toivo Klaar, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and GID co-chair, said.

According to him, the GID format is especially critical at a time of war in Ukraine.

“In this time, GID is a pretty unique setup. We don’t have many such setups during this particular time, at the time of the war in Ukraine, and so that is why we, from the side of the EU, believe it is very important to preserve it. This is a view shared by the co-chairs, and it’s also a view shared by all the participants. So, that brings us together here in Geneva with the understanding that this is in this time important to keep channels of communication open.

I believe that in the present time, the most important thing is the fact that we are having these discussions. We are having these discussions at regular intervals. We are having the possibility to meet, to exchange views and positions to assess the situation and so, to expect major results, I think, that is not something that we should be necessarily aiming at this time. It’s the most important thing is the fact, as I said, that we are here and we are meeting with each other,” Toivo Klaar stated.
