Georgia to increase temporary residence permit term
Georgia to increase temporary residence permit term

The maximum period for the temporary residence permit will be 12 years instead of six in Georgia. Chair of Human Rights Committee, Mikhail Sardzhveladze, will initiate the changes at tomorrow’s Parliamentary Bureau.

The bill defines that foreigners will get the residence permit for the period of their probable stay in Georgia. According to the amendments, after six years of residence in Georgia, a foreigner will have the opportunity to extend it instead of applying for a permanent residence permit, as is the case now.

Besides, according to changes, a person who committed any crime against a human, including those not belonging to the grave crime category, cannot obtain a residence permit in Georgia. The criminal offence will be the basis for terminating the legal stay of an alien in Georgia. Current legislation states that the grave crime committed within the last five years to be the reason for residence permit refusal.
