Telephone elections are utterly absurd: Legal Committee Chair dismisses opposition claims as nonsense
“No one on Earth has ever heard of holding elections by telephone,” Archil Gorduladze, Chairman of the Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, stated.
Gorduladze commented on yesterday’s statement by a civil activist, Paata Burchuladze, who claimed that “elections by telephone are likely to be held in September.”
In Gorduladze’s assessment, this suggestion is utterly unserious.
“The representatives of these foreign agents have to say something, don’t they? Since they lack any substantial argument, they’ve descended into utopian fantasies—no one on Earth has ever heard of conducting elections by telephone. It’s absolute nonsense. They’ve put themselves in a ridiculous position. When they complain about ballot leaks and violations of voting secrecy in regular elections, just imagine the risks involved with telephone voting! This is all completely unserious. These individuals are in a laughable predicament; they have nothing meaningful to say and are talking pure nonsense. Generally speaking, Paata Burchuladze is known for making such outlandish statements,” Gorduladze stated.
He further condemned the political platforms of Salome Zourabichvili and Paata Burchuladze, describing them as merely “new sheds”—political fronts.
“In reality, the platforms of Salome Zourabichvili and Paata Burchuladze are just new political sheds. These are structures created by different groups under different names. The core idea remains the same: their ideology revolves around dismantling state institutions, damaging Georgia’s international reputation, halting economic development, and clearing the way for their own rise to power. Any coalition they form under the guise of a platform will simply be another such shed,” Gorduladze concluded.
