Tbilisi tram line tender announced for design and construction
Tbilisi Transport Company has announced a tender for the design and construction of a tram line. As Tbilisi Mayor, Kakha Kaladze, declared today at the municipal government meeting, the tender encompasses the preparation of essential design and budgetary documentation, as well as the execution of construction and installation works for a tram line connecting Didi Dighomi and Didube.
“Everyone will remember well our pre-election pledge to bring the tram back to Tbilisi. Now, Tbilisi Transport Company has announced a tender for the design and construction of a tram line. The tender covers the preparation of essential design and budgetary documentation for a tram line connecting Didi Dighomi and Didube, as well as the execution of construction and installation works using the so-called Design-Build method,” Kakha Kaladze announced.
According to him, the tram line, which will connect the area near Didube metro station with the Dighomi district via Davit Aghmashenebeli Avenue, will start at the intersection of Didi Dighomi’s 3rd and 4th microdistricts.
“The aim of constructing the tram line is to connect the Didi Dighomi population with the metro system, thereby making travel towards the city centre faster and more comfortable. The indicative length of the tram line has been set at 7.5 kilometres, along which 11 stops will be located. This tender encompasses not only the direct design and construction of the line, but also the establishment of a depot. The depot will be designed to service and operate 10 (+1) tram sets. The depot will include main and auxiliary (emergency evacuation) entrances and exits, covered tram storage, an administrative building, a production facility (service centre), a washing facility, and warehousing facilities. All necessary engineering communications systems and networks essential for the smooth operation of the tram line will be installed,” Kakha Kaladze stated.
The capital’s mayor expressed hope that many companies will participate in the tender, which closes at the end of December. The winning company will be given 36 months to implement the project.
