Tbilisi Police confirm arrest in connection with alleged shooting at Holiday Inn
According to Vazha Siradze, the Director of the Tbilisi Police Department, one individual has been detained in relation to the alleged shooting at the Holiday Inn hotel.
Siradze stated that the investigation is ongoing under Articles 236 and 151 of the Criminal Code, which address threats and the illegal acquisition, possession, and carrying of firearms.
“A report was received concerning gunfire from a hotel room. The Ministry of Internal Affairs responded swiftly; a search was conducted in the room, and the individual was detained. According to both the report and the hotel staff, they allegedly heard a gunshot. The scene of the incident and the room are currently being examined, and we will clarify the details. We have detained one person, and an investigation has been initiated under Articles 236 and 151 of the Criminal Code. At this stage, I cannot confirm whether the firearm has been recovered. The individual detained was alone in the room,” Vazha Siradze explained.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has also issued an official statement regarding the alleged shooting at one of Tbilisi’s hotels.
According to the agency, upon arrival at the scene, it was confirmed that an individual was barricaded inside a hotel room and was threatening staff with death. The Ministry reports that law enforcers have detained the person in question.
“A report was received by the Public Security Management Centre 112 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, indicating that gunfire was allegedly heard from a hotel room in Tbilisi.
Following this report, officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs responded immediately, with units from the Patrol Police, Criminal Police, and Special Tasks Force arriving promptly at the scene.
On arrival, it was determined that a person was confined within one of the hotel’s rooms and was threatening staff with lethal force. The police apprehended this individual at the scene.
