Tbilisi Mayor stresses need for pragmatic policy to protect Georgia’s interests amid global power struggles
“We must pursue a pragmatic and balanced policy to ensure that the interests of our small country are not sacrificed in the games and rivalries of larger nations,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze commented on the prospects of Georgia’s relations with NATO.
Kaladze assured that the Georgian government has been actively working in this direction for years, continues to do so, and remains committed to this course.
“Look at Georgia’s contributions to international missions. Even though we are not a NATO member, we have consistently deployed the largest contingents of military personnel. Our servicemen have received numerous commendations and achieved significant successes. We have demonstrated, through words, concrete actions, and tangible results, that Georgia is a reliable partner.
Despite recent statements suggesting that neither Georgia nor Ukraine might join NATO, I fully understand that all nations pursue their own interests, with major powers acting in their own self-interest. That’s why we emphasize the importance of adopting a pragmatic and principled policy, one that safeguards our nation’s interests against the geopolitical games of larger powers,” Kaladze explained.
