Tbilisi Mayor: Someone may be upset with us, but we will make sure government's pragmatic policy serves country's interests
“The Georgian government has clarified many times that we are ready to make the relations with the West and the US healthier and review the current relations that are not welcoming,” said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze at the municipal government meeting.
According to Kakha Kaladze, the government’s pragmatic policy serves Georgia’s interests.
“Someone may be upset with us, but we will all make sure that the government’s pragmatic policy is based on the country’s interests. Defending the interests of our country and people are of primary significance to us. You all see the ongoing processes in the world, many things will change, but the most important is that we will have peace and stability in the country and Georgia will continue to develop and progress.
We did, do and will do our best to speed up the processes. If we have any success on this path is the merit of our government, Georgian Dream -Democratic Georgia. During our term in office, we progressed on the European integration path. However, blackmailing, menacing, insults or demands to open the second front or sanctions are the topics, which are harmful to our country, ordinary citizens and we will not accept that,” he said.
Tbilisi Mayor remarked that Georgia will not be used for pursuing the interests of other big countries.
“We will not do anything that will be disastrous for our country. However, some countries may benefit from that. We do not want anyone to use Georgia to pursue the interests of other big countries. We just want friendship and partnership, to deepen relations. Of course, current relations with the West and the US are not favourable. However, the Georgian government has clarified many times that we are ready to make these relations healthier and review the current relations. We are ready for healthy relations if they are bilateral,” he said.
