Tbilisi Mayor: I have no doubt Georgia will be worthy host of U-20 World Cup

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has congratulated football supporters on Georgia’s successful bid to host the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2029.

Speaking at a session of the Tbilisi Municipal Government, he emphasised that being entrusted with a tournament of this scale carries with it an enormous weight of responsibility.

“Congratulations! For the first time in the history of independent Georgia, our country will host a world-ranking tournament under FIFA’s auspices, the Under-20 World Cup. Armenia will join us as a co-host. Hosting a world-class tournament of this nature is not only a tremendous honour, but a profound responsibility. I wish to express my gratitude to the Football Federation leadership for their efforts, and to FIFA for their support. This attests to the fact that Georgia’s government is dedicating significant effort to sport, including the development of football and the construction of new infrastructure across cities and regions throughout the country.

Here in Tbilisi, working alongside the Football Federation, we have delivered a great many important projects. New football academies have been established, which are vital for our young people. Everything will continue to be done to strengthen this area further and to build more such sporting facilities. Once again, I congratulate all football supporters on this momentous decision. I have every confidence that Georgia will prove itself a worthy and gracious host of the Under-20 World Cup,” said Kakha Kaladze.
