Tbilisi Mayor calls for balance on noise rules: Car and motorbike enthusiasts should be satisfied, and residents should not be disturbed
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze affirmed that planned noise control measures must achieve an equitable balance, guaranteeing quiet for residents while remaining considerate of motoring enthusiasts.
Addressing the press, he confirmed receiving extensive feedback from drivers and riders calling for a pragmatic solution.
“One problem is that residents are being disturbed by noise, especially at night, on particular streets and particular avenues, and this is a very serious problem for people. But there is another side too: car and motorbike enthusiasts. The Prime Minister also spoke about this issue today. Incidentally, a great many young people, motorbike and car enthusiasts, have written to me about this as well, asking whether some sensible solution might be found,” Kakha Kaladze said.
The Mayor of Tbilisi stressed that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the relevant sporting federations are involved in the process.
“As the Prime Minister said today, working groups have been set up involving both the motor and motorcycle federations, with specific individuals taking part, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. I am confident that a decision will be reached that works for everyone: for car and motorbike enthusiasts, and in a way that does not disturb or harm residents,” the capital’s mayor said.
