Tbilisi Mayor: Blackmail and threats persist against Georgia over new visa-free travel regulations

According to the Mayor of Tbilisi, the EU’s discussions surrounding the easing of criteria for suspending visa-free travel are part of a campaign of blackmail.

As Kakha Kaladze explained in a statement to journalists today, this stance represents a continuation of the rhetoric that the EU has been directing towards Georgia in recent years.

“Blackmail and threats persist. We have heard numerous statements concerning Georgia. These remarks are a continuation of the narrative that has been employed against our country over the past few years.

In general, we are all well aware of the issue of informal governance, which remains a significant problem in today’s world. Even the President of the United States, Donald Trump, addressed this, stating that his primary aim was to combat informal governance. Yet, to date, little progress has been made in this regard. We will have to wait and see what the future holds,” said Kakha Kaladze.
