An international conference entitled “From Research to Results: The Role of Patents in the Dissemination and Application of New Technologies” is currently underway in Tbilisi.

The event was opened by Levan Zhorzholiani, Head of the Government Administration, and is being attended by António Campinos, President of the European Patent Office (EPO).

As highlighted at the conference, the gathering is dedicated to exploring how the fruits of scientific research can be transformed into tangible products and what role knowledge plays in the modern economy. The patent stands as one of the principal instruments through which ideas are converted into economic value, innovation is fostered, and a more secure environment is created for investors.

According to EPO President António Campinos, the transfer of technologies, the attraction of foreign investment, and the development of new technologies all depend on robust research, skilled intellectual property professionals, and sound legal frameworks.

“Patents and our validation agreement help researchers, universities, small, medium, and large businesses, and individual inventors to bring ideas from the laboratory to the market by ensuring legal clarity and predictability, as well as clear professional standards,” the EPO President remarked.

Before the conference opening, António Campinos held discussions with the Chairman of Sakpatenti and the Minister of Education. During the meeting, the participants emphasised the vital role of academic and scientific activities as essential foundations for fostering innovation, inventive progress, and technological advancement.
