Tbilisi City Court to deliver verdict in group violence case on September 1
Tbilisi City Court Judge Tamar Mchedlishvili will deliver the verdict in the case of Zviad Tsetskhladze, Vepkhia Kasradze, and six others accused of group violence, on September 1. Before that, hearings scheduled for August 25 and 27 will see lawyers present their closing arguments, with the defendants making their final statements.
Today, the prosecution spent two and a half hours making its closing remarks, asserting that the defendants committed group violence and injured police officers.
Four defence witnesses were scheduled to be questioned today, but the prosecution deemed these witnesses uncontested and did not re-examine them. Additionally, a Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau (NFB) report was introduced as evidence, revealing that the videos of Tornike Goshadze and Irakli Miminoshvili, introduced as evidence, show signs of editing, both in terms of cuts and image quality.
The defence argued that the prosecution falsified the video evidence, selectively attaching footage of Miminoshvili and Goshadze out of context with police officers, suggesting the defendants were throwing objects at the police. The expert report confirmed this, the defence claimed.
The lawyers maintain that none of the evidence in the case indicates that any of the defendants injured a police officer.
