Economy Minister Kvrivishvili: Georgia–Azerbaijan commission focused on deepening trade and bolstering energy ties
“At the 11th session of the Georgia–Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, officials addressed key measures to accelerate and reinforce bilateral trade and economic dynamics,’ stated Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili.
Kvrivishvili noted discussions emphasised deepening commercial trade relations, scaling up collaboration across the energy sector, and key transport initiatives.
“Particular priority was given to expanding trade links and bolstering energy cooperation, especially in electricity and natural gas. We also touched on joint transport initiatives. Georgia and Azerbaijan play a pivotal role and make a crucial contribution to the Middle Corridor and the broader evolution of the regional transport network,” Kvrivishvili said.
“We held comprehensive talks on major infrastructure milestones, including the completion of the historic modernisation of Georgian Railway and related projects designed to further solidify our nation’s strategic position as a regional transit hub,” she added.
The Minister highlighted that the Georgian government’s primary goal is to double the capacity of its transport infrastructure across both maritime ports and rail networks by 2029. In this context, discussions extended to progress on the Anaklia Deep Sea Port.
“We reviewed ongoing construction works at the Anaklia Deep Sea Port and reiterated our government’s strategic roadmap to welcome the first cargo vessel at the port in 2029. Our talks reflected the deep friendship and strategic partnership uniting our two nations, a partnership that consistently drives constructive solutions and yields tangible economic benefits for both countries,” Kvrivishvili noted.
