Tbilisi City Court imposes fines on two protesters

The Tbilisi City Court reviewed the cases against Irakli Tsulaia, a member of the Gakharia-For Georgia party, and protester Irakli Diasamidze, both of whom were detained during the rally on November 29.

Judge Zviad Tsekvava imposed a penalty of GEL 3,000 on Irakli Tsulaia, granting the request of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), which accused him of disobeying a lawful order from the police.

Tsulaia alleged that he was assaulted while returning to the protest after escorting his child home. He asserted that he participated in the rally with his brother and posed “no threat to anyone.”

Tsulaia also stated that the Judge was presented with video footage showing his beating; however, Judge Tsekvava “expressed interest neither in the material nor in the extent of his injuries.”

The City Court fined activist and protester Irakli Diasamidze with GEL 4,500.

According to Diasamidze, he was attacked and physically assaulted by Special Task Force officers on Chichinadze Street.

Meanwhile, attorneys and representatives from the Special Investigation Service visited the protesters detained for administrative law violations at a pre-detention cell in Tbilisi.

The attorney reported that the detainees sustained various bodily injuries and criticized the excessive use of force by law enforcement officials.
