Tbilisi City Court: Giorgi Akhobadze acquitted due to insufficient evidence of appropriate standards

The Tbilisi City Court released an official statement over the verdict in the case of doctor Giorgi Akhobadze.

According to the statement, the City Court acquitted Giorgi Akhobadze due to insufficient evidence of the appropriate standards.

“Based on the verdict made by the Tbilisi City Court’s Criminal Cases Collegium, Giorgi Akhobadze was found not guilty and has been acquitted. He was charged with purchasing and possessing large quantities of narcotics under Article 260 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. However, the City Court acquitted him due to insufficient evidence meeting the required standards,” the Court stated.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia said it will appeal the Tbilisi City Court’s acquittal within the legally established timeframe after receiving the motivational part of the decision.

Giorgi Akhobadze was arrested in December 2024. He faced charges of illegal acquisition and possession of large amounts of narcotics, a crime that carries a sentence of 8 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
