Tbilisi-Ankara flights to boost business and tourism, Deputy Economy Minister says
Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Irakli Nadareishvili stated that the Georgian government is actively working to expand the country’s direct air connectivity.
As an example, he highlighted the launch of Tbilisi–Ankara–Tbilisi flights.
“Turkey is one of Georgia’s key trade and economic partners. Accordingly, direct flights between Tbilisi and Ankara will support the development of business, the economy, and tourism between our countries,” Nadareishvili said.
According to the Ministry of Economy, more than 1.2 million passengers traveled by air between Georgia and Turkey last year, accounting for 47% of the total passenger flow between Georgia and neighboring countries.
The ministry also reported that in the first seven months of 2025, Georgian airports handled a record number of over 20,000 international and domestic flights. The number of passenger and cargo flights in January–July was 16% higher compared to the same period in 2024, while passenger traffic increased by 13%. Currently, all three international airports in Georgia operate with an average of 745 flights per week.
From the end of September, Turkish low-cost airline AJet will begin regular Tbilisi–Ankara flights, operating four times a week.
