Strong Georgia's Dolidze urges WHO Europe to intervene in Mzia Amaglobeli's case

“I have appealed to the WHO Europe Regional Director, who has the power to visit Mzia Amaglobeli,” stated Ana Dolidze, one of the leaders of the Strong Georgia coalition.

According to her, all possible measures should be taken regarding Mzia Amaglobeli, and the UN can intervene in this matter from a medical perspective.

Dolidze stated that the current situation in the country constitutes a national emergency, with fifty political prisoners, including Amaglobeli, being detained.

“We are facing a grave situation, with Mzia Amaglobeli’s life hanging in the balance. She has been on hunger strike for 16 days, which poses a significant threat to her health and well-being. Today, I appealed to the World Health Organization, which is part of the UN. As a member of the United Nations, Georgia has a responsibility to uphold human rights and ensure the safety of its citizens,” Dolidze emphasized.

Dolidze highlighted the importance of the UN’s intervention, particularly from a medical perspective, citing Georgia’s annual contribution of $200,000 to the organization.

“It is imperative that the WHO, as a specialized agency of the UN, takes immediate action to address this crisis. The WHO Europe Regional Director, Hans Kluge, has the authority to visit Mzia Amaglobeli and assess her condition. This is not a political issue, but a humanitarian one, and it requires urgent attention. The UN has the leverage to intervene in this matter, and we hope that they will take decisive action to prevent a tragedy,” Dolidze stated, underscoring the need for all possible measures to be taken to ensure Amaglobeli’s safety and well-being.
