Construction of Abastumani bypass road continues; passes for animals to be arranged within project

Construction of a 15.9-kilometre-long bypass road continues near Abastumani resort.

According to the Roads Department of Georgia’s Infrastructure Ministry, the new road aims to divert transit traffic away from Abastumani, thereby reducing traffic congestion at the resort, improving environmental conditions, and preserving its unique natural environment.

The project is ongoing in a complex terrain, while the works involve excavating rocky soil, drilling, slope stabilization, and widening the roadway. To ensure the road’s stability and safety, retaining walls, culverts, and drainage channels are being constructed.

The project includes construction of a 368-meter tunnel and 6 bridges. During construction of the bypass road, special attention is paid to minimizing the impact on the natural environment and restoring the damaged natural cover.

Experts are working on a relevant plan to determine the species and quantity of shrubs and trees to be planted in the area of ​​the Abastumani bypass road. Additionally, with the purpose of protecting the local biodiversity, special migration passes for animals will be arranged within the project.
