State Security Service: the occupation forces used the occupied territories to influence the political processes in Georgia
The grave crime situation in the occupied regions, total corruption, the ignorance of civil rights of the local population, impunity, and the socio-economic problems existing on the ground pose threat to each citizen living in the occupied territories, regardless of their ethnicity, – it is stated in 2018 report of the State Security Service, which was submitted to the Parliament of Georgia.
The State Security Service notes that the main challenge for Georgia is again the occupation and the Russian military bases illegally stationed in the occupied regions.
As noted in the State Security Service’s report, in 2018 there was detected a clear tendency that the occupation forces used occupied territories and situation there, including illegal detentions and so called Borderization, for influencing on civil opinion on certain issues in Georgia and the ongoing political processes in the country.
