State Language Department to promote Georgian language education in China
The State Language Department recently held a meeting with representatives of Beijing Foreign Studies University to discuss the teaching of the Georgian language in China.
According to the State Language Department, the meeting was attended by Vice President Zhao Kang, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Su Yingying, and Director of the Georgian Language Department Yuen Po.
“The primary focus of the discussion was the promotion of Georgian language education at Chinese universities. Yuen Po, a professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University, alongside Nino Kochishvili, a doctoral student at Tbilisi State University, currently teaches Georgian at the university,” the department stated.
The conversation also covered the rules for Georgian transcription and transliteration of the Chinese syllable system, developed collaboratively by the State Language Department and Chinese language specialists.
“This system underpins the Chinese-Georgian language converter, which is presently in testing and will soon be accessible to the wider public,” the department added.
