SSG warns of disruption to Presidential Election by criminal actors

“The organizers of criminal acts aim to disrupt the election of Georgia’s president on December 14,” stated the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG) in an official statement.

According to the SSG, the protest organizers are scheming to create disorder, which could escalate tensions and result in casualties.

“We wish to inform the public that as the momentum of protest rallies outside the Parliament building in Tbilisi begins to wane, a certain group of local actors implementing a criminal agenda is becoming active in an attempt to artificially escalate the situation to violently overthrow the government. This is evidenced by frequent assaults by masked individuals on peaceful citizens and law enforcement officers, both at protest sites and in other locations.

Notably, an attack on a filming crew from a local TV station serves as one example of this criminal scheme, which fortunately resulted in no casualties. The Special Investigation Service is currently investigating this incident, and we express our readiness to cooperate to ensure the truth is revealed promptly.

Based on the information available, the organizers of these destructive and criminal activities are planning to disrupt the election of the Sixth President of Georgia on December 14, potentially leading to an artificially created governmental crisis.

In light of this, the organizers are expected to attempt to heighten tensions, particularly on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and part of Friday, which could result in 2 to 3 casualties. With such casualties, they may seek to gain momentum and incite a radical atmosphere, ultimately blaming the government in a disguised manner,” the SSG statement concluded.
