Special Investigation Service interrogates GPB First Channel photojournalist Irakli Gedenidze
The Special Investigation Service is currently interrogating Irakli Gedenidze, a photojournalist for GPB First Channel, who sustained injuries while covering protests on Rustaveli Avenue near the Tbilisi Marriott Hotel on December 1.
The Public Defender of Georgia had reported Gedenidze’s case to the Special Investigation Service.
“I came to provide details about what happened and how it transpired. The entire incident was broadcast live, and video footage captured the event. A piece of burning pyrotechnics fell on my leg, and as I attempted to step aside, it ignited. I felt a sharp pain in my left leg, rendering me unable to move, and I fell from an elevated area.
Two protesters and fellow journalists rushed to assist me. First Medical Aid treated me on-site and recommended that I be transferred to a clinic, but I declined. I regained feeling in my leg and continued to capture footage,” he recounted.
The Special Investigation Service is examining incidents involving the obstruction of media professionals and assaults on journalists.
