Special attention to Ukraine understandable, but Georgia got not even MAP in times of 2008 war, GD Chair recalls
Special attention to Ukraine understandable, but Georgia got not even MAP in times of 2008 war, GD Chair recalls

Understandably, Ukraine has drawn particular attention. We should not and will not envy it. Nevertheless, we must recall that while Georgia was at war with Russia in 2008, the nation was not even granted a MAP, Irakli Kobakhidze, the Georgian Dream party chair, told journalists.

He emphasized Georgia will make maximum efforts to continue progressing towards NATO, but much will depend on global processes.

“We should calmly wait for the development of events in the region on a global scale. This is our primary task,” he added.

Regarding Ukraine, Kobakhidze stated that the country is currently in a state of war, so special attention to this country is natural. He noted that in this context, Georgia should remember the situation in 2008 when Georgia faced war with Russia.

“We must recall that while Georgia was at war with Russia in 2008, the nation was not even granted a MAP. Georgia went through a war with Russia but drew no particular approach. The fact Ukraine is receiving special attention is a positive thing, and we should not and will not be envious,” Kobakhidze stressed.
