Speaker: Violence in Georgia in the name of Europe, echoes Soviet tactics—EU citizens should take notice

According to Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament, violence is currently unfolding in Georgia under the guise of European ideals.

Papuashvili criticised the European Union for failing to condemn the December events, during which Molotov cocktails were thrown and the parliament was set ablaze.

“Regarding December’s events, what we observe from the European Commission is that they justify the burning of the parliament and the violence against police with Molotov cocktails. Can anyone point to a statement from the EU ambassador, the German ambassador, or any European Commission representative condemning these acts? Did anyone condemn the violence? No. Instead of denouncing the arson and Molotov attacks, the EU justifies them. This is the shame Brussels brings upon European values — violence is occurring in the name of Europe today in Georgia.

In whose name are these threats, violence, and hate speech being committed? In the name of the European Union, under the guise of EU solidarity and representation.

We also saw German and EU ambassadors show solidarity with attackers targeting police officers. This behaviour has nothing to do with European principles. It’s reminiscent of Soviet tactics — and we know what the Soviet Union stood for.

That’s why we are warning EU citizens: we observe increasing awareness among the people. The results of recent elections across the EU reflect this shift,” Shalva Papuashvili stated.
