Speaker Shalva Papuashvili awards Honorary Medal of Parliament of Georgia to chairperson of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis
The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, awarded the Honorary Medal of the Parliament of Georgia to the Chairperson of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova.
According to the parliament press service, the new parliamentary award, the Honorary Medal of the Parliament, was presented to Sahiba Gafarova in recognition of her outstanding contribution to strengthening cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Azerbaijan and to the development of interparliamentary relations.
Sahiba Gafarova is the first recipient of the Honorary Medal established under the new Rules of Procedure of the Parliament.
“Sahiba Gafarova has made a significant contribution to deepening relations between the legislative bodies of the two countries. Ties between the Parliament of Georgia and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan have intensified at all levels during her tenure. Also, numerous successful high-level visits took place.
It is noteworthy that during Sahiba Gafarova’s official visit to Georgia in March 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Parliament of Georgia and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The memorandum aims to further strengthen regular cooperation between parliamentary friendship groups, sectoral committees, and staff of the legislative bodies, promote the exchange of experience on various issues, and expand opportunities for cooperation within international parliamentary formats,” reads the Georgian Parliament’s press statement.
