Speaker says President Kavelashvili in U.S. to speak on matters of national importance

“The President in the United States will personally deliver his messages, but as a representative of our nation, he will focus on issues that matter most to us,” stated Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia.

According to Papuashvili, “Georgia’s core message is one of peace and the primacy of international law.”

“We are a country that has endured several wars, yet we have managed to sustain peace for the past thirteen years. This experience may be of interest to others. Some have viewed our conflicts and struggles with indifference, but now, with war erupting in the heart of Europe, many have likely realised what a grave problem war is and the true value of peace. The Georgian Dream government has demonstrated how peace can be preserved in a region surrounded by conflict,” Papuashvili emphasised.

When asked whether Kavelashvili would address Russia at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Papuashvili responded:

“Statistics are important to you, who mentions Russia, how often, and in what context. That’s not what matters to us. During our public addresses, such details hold no absolute significance. What truly matters to us is peace, the real realisation that there should be no new war, despite some’s persistent desires for conflict.

For you, it might be about counts and mentions, who cursed whom, and how often. That’s what Mikheil Saakashvili and the radical opposition have focused on, which led us into war and brought us close to conflict again in 2022. There are opposition figures and NGOs who would prefer to be bombed than shamed out. The President’s speech will be his own; his messages will be his alone,” declared Shalva Papuashvili.
