Speaker says Gakharia for Georgia MPs to have their mandates terminated for missing over half of sessions

“The issue of terminating the mandates of the Gakharia for Georgia party MPs will be addressed after the session concludes. Their mandates will be revoked, as they have missed more than half of the parliamentary sessions,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to him, it is now up to these MPs to decide whether they will continue to act against the Georgian state under foreign influence or accept the mandate entrusted to them by their voters.

“Gakharia for Georgia MPs have missed over half of the sessions. Once the current session ends, their mandates will be reviewed and, if necessary, revoked. They have accumulated enough absences to justify this. The choice before them is simple: Will they serve the interests of the Georgian people or bow to foreign ambassadors and politicians who push their agendas? Claiming non-recognition of legitimacy is a farce, it’s like a person standing at a traffic light and refusing to recognize its existence. The reality remains a reality. Living in this distorted fantasy has its term used in medicine,” Papuashvili stated.

“It’s worth noting that 12 MPs from Gakharia’s party, including Giorgi Gakharia himself, played truant one session, and skipped all plenaries despite continuing to receive party funding. We did not pay them salaries, but they still benefited from party funds despite their inactivity. The Georgian people cannot tolerate such indolence, and legislation provides appropriate mechanisms to address this,” Papuashvili concluded.
