Speaker: Political elites of the Baltics will make friends with Georgia if we blow ourselves on mine to harm Russia

“The Baltics view Russia as a real threat and apply all resources to neutralize or reduce that threat. Likely, Georgia is considered in ‘all resources’ as a tool against Russia,” wrote Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Facebook.

In his post, the Speaker said that “chaotic sanctioning of Georgian officials” with “excess enthusiasm” generated “astonishment and curiosity.”

Shalva Papuashvili inquired that if sanctions were a response to “democratic backsliding,” why the Baltic states supported Saakashvili’s authoritarian regime, which undermined political and human freedoms.

According to Shalva Papuashvili, the solution to this puzzle is the statement of Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Denmark at the Munich Security Conference (MSC), who said that the issue was in Russia rather than in Ukraine.

“The Baltics view Russia as a real threat and apply all resources to neutralize or reduce that threat. Likely, Georgia is considered in ‘all resources’ as a tool against Russia. If we observe the behavior of post-Soviet Baltic states, we will see that they supported Saakashvili, who acted irresponsibly with Russia, while they attack the Georgian Dream’s government, which promotes peace and acts in Georgia’s interests, and finally they arrived at the imposition of unexplainable sanctions.

It seems that Russia is the reason for everything. The political elites of the Baltics will make friends with Georgia if we blow ourselves on a mine to harm Russia and avoid the threat to the Baltics. To reach the target, they are ready to apply to all tools, including the impediment of European integration.

If anyone knows the basics of friendship, it is Georgians. True friendship is selfless. However, unfortunately, selfish friendships also exist. There is a special place in hell reserved for those who sacrifice a friend to save their own skin,” Papuashvili wrote.
