Speaker Papuashvili: Without clear commitment to Georgian identity and interests, political success is impossible

“The radical opposition faces a certain psychological challenge of a political nature; they are living someone else’s life. They look at Venezuela and yearn to be Venezuelan; they look at Hungary and desire to be Hungarian; they observe Nepal and wish to be Nepalese. The most important thing is that they do not want to be Georgian,” Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, told journalists.

According to Papuashvili, this is their fundamental problem.

“They want to be anyone else but Georgian. A non-Georgian identity will never find success in Georgia. When a political group does not base its policies on Georgian identity and interests, they have no prospects of success. Once again, this reveals the desperation that exists within the opposition,” he added.
