Speaker Papuashvili: While complaining about foreign interference, some Germans interfere in other countries' internal affairs and spread disinformation
“While complaining about foreign interference, some Germans are happy to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs and spread disinformation,” writes the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, on social network X.
Papuashvili responded to the Bundestag representatives’ statement regarding ongoing events in Georgia, in which they claimed that OSCE long-term observers were not allowed to monitor the elections.
“While Europe is having heated discussions about foreign intervention and disinformation, some representatives of Germany’s leading parties fail to realize that they are interfering in others’ affairs and spreading disinformation. Their published statement about Georgia’s parliamentary elections contains obvious lies.
First, contrary to the fact stated in this declaration, the OSCE/ODIHR delegation arrived in Georgia one month before the parliamentary elections and was provided with all conditions for their activities; second, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has never said that he ‘ruled out EU membership negotiations until 2028’. He stated that the Georgian government would not raise this issue itself and, at the same time called on the EU to open these negotiations promptly. ‘Ruling out’ is solely a product of the statement authors’ imagination.
These obvious lies, along with not just interference in Georgia’s affairs but direct participation in the radical opposition’s pre-election campaign by the Chairman of the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Roth, rule out any mistake: while complaining about foreign interference, some Germans are happy to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs and spread disinformation,” stated Shalva Papuashvili.
The OSCE’s mission included long-term observers for the parliamentary elections in Georgia, as stated in a press release published by the OSCE on September 12, 2024.
