Speaker Papuashvili: War will end; Ukraine’s elite to account for unfriendly actions amidst Georgia's support

“Thanks to Joe Wilson’s persistent actions, only half a sentence was included in the final resolution—referring to elections and detainees during violent protests—highlighting how the Assembly, as part of the OSCE, is often exploited for political intrigue. We must view this critically,” stated Shalva Papuashvili, Georgia’s Parliament Speaker.

He emphasised that the OSCE Secretary General’s stance is vital for Georgia.

“Regarding the efforts of various delegations, that’s another matter. It’s regrettable that among the co-authors of Joe Wilson’s addition was the Ukrainian delegation. It’s painful to witness. Despite Georgia’s support for Ukraine, this act is a betrayal—Ukraine, itself facing existential threats and at war, attempts to undermine us,” Papuashvili condemned.

He called the Ukrainian delegation’s conduct shameful.

“I have said this before: this war will eventually end, and the Ukrainian political elite will have to answer to the Georgian people for their behaviour—behaviour that starkly contrasts with the support and solidarity Georgia has shown. We’ve supported over 600 resolutions on Ukraine. We applied with the International Criminal Court in The Hague—Moldova was not a co-author; we were. In response, we see the Ukrainian delegation acting against Georgia in forums like the OSCE and PACE, attempting to harm our nation. Today, Ukrainian refugees—families and children—are with us, and we’ve provided educational opportunities in Ukrainian for their children. Yet, in return, some Ukrainian officials run through corridors trying to undermine Georgia. This is a betrayal of friendship. The Ukrainian people deserve better; such unfriendly actions undermine their interests and are a true betrayal of our support,” Papuashvili concluded.
