Speaker Papuashvili: Trump company entering Georgia under its own brand speaks volumes about our investment climate
“Georgia has cultivated a strong investment environment and is economically attractive to all comers. When Trump’s company enters Georgia under its own name and brand, it demonstrates that it knows this environment well,” said Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.
Papuashvili was asked about reports that President Trump’s family real estate company is planning to build a 70-storey skyscraper in Tbilisi, Trump Tower Tbilisi. Specifically, a journalist put the following question to the Speaker: “How do you assess the fact that the opposition is opposing even this investment?”
“The opposition will no doubt declare Americanisation to be some problem this time round. In reality, the matter is quite straightforward. According to recent data, Georgia leads not merely the region but the world in the pace of its economic development. At the same time, Georgia is an island of peace and stability in a region where new conflicts are flaring up and intensifying all around. Georgia, its governance, and its institutions is among the success stories, and every objective international study bears this out. Whether it is low levels of corruption or strong good-governance ratings, Georgia is at the forefront. It is precisely these conditions that have created such a favourable investment climate here, making the country economically attractive to everyone.
When the Trump company enters Georgia under its own name and brand, it signals that it has a thorough understanding of what this environment has to offer. Naturally, Trump and his company are mindful of the reputation they have built up over the years, and it is on the strength of that reputation that they are entering this business venture. For the purposes of attracting investment more broadly, it matters enormously when a brand of this calibre arrives and places its trust, first and foremost, in Georgia and its potential. Accordingly, this will not only encourage further investment, but will introduce an altogether new standard to the property market,” Papuashvili declared.
