Speaker Papuashvili: PACE resolution clearly illustrates everyone, unlike our opposition, perceives progress

The key element in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) resolution is that everyone perceives progress, as contrary to our opposition, said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Friday.

According to him, all concerns related to the EC’s 12 points that were dependent on a legislative majority have been resolved.

“Last year, following the fall session, we had a brief overview of the activities related to the 12 points. The fundamental concerns, or at least those that were dependent on a legislative majority, were resolved. Some issues were beyond our control, such as the election of several positions requiring a qualified majority and two bills on which we are awaiting the Venice Commission’s opinion. The key element in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) resolution is that everyone perceives progress as contrary to our opposition. This progress has been made, with many of the proposals already implemented. Participation of all parties is crucial when it comes to decisions that the parliamentary majority cannot make alone, such as the election of the Public Defender and non-judge members of the Supreme Council of Justice,” Papuashvili remarked.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a resolution on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by the CoE Member States.
