“Fortunately, the governments of Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, and indeed the governments of the region’s countries more broadly, are pursuing wise policies to preserve peace in our region,” said the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, speaking to Georgian journalists in Istanbul.

According to Papuashvili, the Middle Corridor is growing in significance. In this regard, it is to the credit of the region’s governments that the turmoil and crises visible all around it have not taken root within the Corridor itself.

“It was important that we held a meeting with the Speaker of the host country’s parliament. A meeting with the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament is of particular significance against the backdrop of the challenges unfolding around our region. Fortunately, the governments of Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, along with the nations of the region as a whole, are pursuing prudent policies aimed at maintaining peace and stability in our area. We can see the growing importance of the Middle Corridor, and it is to the credit of our governments that the disorder and crises we observe all around us have not taken hold within it.

Inter-parliamentary relations are extremely intensive. Before long, we shall be hosting a trilateral format meeting in Tbilisi, bringing together the committees of the parliaments of Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. This is a well-established platform that enables us to engage in dialogue at the parliamentary level.

Our visit was undertaken at the invitation of the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, and in return, I have extended a reciprocal invitation to him. I hope that visit will take place in the very near future,” Shalva Papuashvili declared.
