We discussed the regional challenges that are significant for Mediterranean countries and the region as a whole, stated the Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili.
Shalva Papuashvili, met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Malta, Angelo Farrugia.
“We talked about the conflicts and wars that are ongoing and, unfortunately, remain unresolved to this day. The discussion focused on their impact and on what various organizations should do. We also discussed the special role regional organizations should play in peacekeeping policy, especially given that they are unfortunately sidelined in the conflict-resolution process,” Papuashvili said.
According to him, Malta remains a strong supporter of Georgia and the Georgian people.
“A particularly warm relationship has been established between our parliaments, including between the Speaker of the Maltese Parliament and me personally. We also discussed institutional and structural cooperation. Within this assembly, we intend to apply for observer status, and Malta has expressed full support in this regard.
In general, Malta is a strong supporter of Georgia and the Georgian people. The Maltese Parliament maintains close cooperation with us. There is always a willingness on their part to promote dialogue and cooperation, unlike the approach we often see from Brussels, which attempts to block dialogue and communicate through unilateral directives. Malta consistently supports engagement and cooperation, and we value their support in facilitating dialogue,” Papuashvili stated.
