Speaker: Georgian people, who defeated Georgia’s would-be overthrowers at ballot box, won’t accept their excuses
“Everyone knew everything. They knew they were going to overthrow the government at four o’clock on the fourth of October and that they needed to complete their actions on the same day,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili wrote on social media.
As Papuashvili notes, everyone knew full well that they were overthrowing their own country’s future rather than the government.
“Everyone knew everything. They knew they were going to overthrow the government at four o’clock on the fourth of October and that they needed to complete their actions on the same day. The politician knew it, the NGO activist knew it, the young person knew it, and the elderly knew it, both the informed and the uninformed alike. Each of those several thousand people who stood on Freedom Square knew why they had gone there. And they knew that they were overthrowing their own country’s future rather than the government.
They went there with the aim of overthrowing the government. At four o’clock on the fourth of the month, in that very place, a collective act of treason against the state was carried out by several thousand people, all united in their defiance, becoming, in effect, one collective Murtaz Zodelava.
Now, with the events having already taken place and concluded, the Georgian people will no longer accept excuses of “I didn’t know” or “I didn’t think” from anyone; the Georgian people, who have defeated at the ballot boxes the country’s would-be overthrowers, gathered at four o’clock on the fourth,” writes Papuashvili.
