Speaker: Georgian people expect EU spokesperson to apologise for supporting attempted government overthrow

“Anitta Hipper’s verbal attack on the Georgian government is a desperate attempt to evade responsibility,” wrote Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of Parliament, on social media.

Papuashvili stated that the more frequently the Lead European spokeswoman for Foreign Affairs and Security uses the word “Russian” in reference to the Georgian people, the more response she will receive.

“The only thing Georgian society expects from the European Commission spokesperson is an apology for backing the rally organised to overthrow the government, during which participants stormed the Presidential Palace and injured 25 police officers. Her today’s verbal assault on the Georgian government is a frantic effort to dodge accountability.

As for the ‘Russians,’ the spokesperson should not doubt that, just as often as she chooses to inappropriately brand the Georgian people and their government as ‘Russian,’ she will receive a fitting response,” Papuashvili wrote.
