Speaker: FAC missed yet another opportunity for EU to condemn assault on Presidential Palace in Georgia
“Yesterday, the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) in Luxembourg once again missed an important opportunity for EU Commissioners and Ministers to condemn the violent storming of the Georgian presidential palace on October 4,” wrote Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on social media.
As Papuashvili explains, instead of addressing the violence, the Council was once again subjected to false narratives targeting the Georgian people.
“Rather than condemning the violence, we heard again the propagation of false narratives against Georgia.
Covering for the perpetrators is an excuse for violence, and offering such excuses only encourages further violence.
Brussels must return to fundamental European values and refuse to endorse violence as a means to achieve political ends,” Papuashvili stated.
