Speaker: EU pays 900,000 euros to Sapari, undermining democracy and calling for government overthrow

“The European Union is allocating 900,000 euros to the organisation Sapari, which refuses to recognise democratic institutions, campaigns of hatred, and organises rallies calling for the overthrow of the elected government,” wrote Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on social media.

As Papuashvili emphasised, “This is the critical information we need to understand the extent of the connection between Brussels and extremism.”

“The European Union is allocating 900,000 euros to the organisation Sapari,” which refuses to recognise democratic institutions, campaigns of hatred, and organises rallies calling for the overthrow of the elected government. Its declared goal is to sabotage elections and violate citizens’ right to vote. This is the stark reality that reveals the true nature of Brussels’ ties to extremism,” he stated.

The vice-president of the Patriots for Europe political group in the European Parliament plans to establish a committee dedicated to transparency and accountability. She is collecting signatures to support this initiative. The Hungarian MEP has raised questions concerning contracts between the European Union and tens of thousands of NGOs, demanding the detailed publication of relevant data. Information about grants allocated by Brussels to Georgia’s third sector is also being actively sought through documents requested from and published by the European Commission.
