Speaker condemns EU Spokesperson’s statement as green light for politically motivated crime

“What we heard from the Spokesperson of the European Commission for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy is a justification of politically motivated violence and a clear signal, a green light for such crimes,” stated Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, addressing journalists.

Papuashvili commented on Anitta Hipper’s statement, in which she said: “The European Union supports Elene Khoshtaria and all unjustly detained political prisoners, journalists, and civil society representatives in Georgia.”

According to Papuashvili, Elene Khoshtaria has committed a politically motivated offence.

“Khoshtaria is precisely the kind of individual who refuses to participate in democratic processes and openly aims to hinder citizens’ ability to express their will through elections, thereby disrupting the democratic process itself. When a spokesperson for one of the EU institutions publicly supports such a figure, it effectively greenlights violence. In fact, what we have heard is a justification for politically motivated violence and crime, a green light for such acts,” he argued.

The Speaker further criticised the EU and Brussels for failing to hold accountable those responsible for politically motivated violence.

“Furthermore, all such politically motivated crimes or acts of violence attributed to these groups must be held accountable by the relevant institutions of the European Union or Brussels, including the European Union Embassy, which has not distanced itself from violence to this day. This includes those perpetrators it funds itself.

Let me remind you that it has recently come to light that the EU Embassy is funding an individual who calls for politically motivated murders and has been slandering the memory of Levan Gachechiladze, one of Georgia’s most notable politicians in modern history. The EU Embassy supports such a person and does not consider the public worthy of even a word of concern or condemnation.

Does this, in any way, align with European, or even galactic, values, when someone calls for politically motivated murder and is financed with the money of EU citizens? It is unfortunate, but Brussels has brought itself to this situation, equating itself with violence and politically motivated crime,” concluded Shalva Papuashvili.
