“Brussels must cease its political interference in the justice system; regrettably, it continues to disregard the lessons of history,” wrote Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament, on social media.
According to Papuashvili, if EU bureaucrats and politicians truly upheld European values, they would have issued formal apologies to the Georgian people following each ECHR decision.
“Brussels needs to stop justifying politically motivated crimes and interference in justice. Unfortunately, Brussels continues to ignore the lessons of the past, where the Strasbourg Court repeatedly exposed the injustice of such meddling in cases involving Saakashvili, Melia, Gvaramia, Rustavi 2, and others.
If EU officials and policymakers remained loyal to European principles, the Georgian people would have heard apologies after each European Court of Human Rights ruling. Instead, we witness unjust attacks on the Georgian state and a perpetuation of the same vicious cycle,” Papuashvili asserted.
