Levan Koguashvili’s ‘Guria’ selected as Georgia’s submission for 2027 Oscars

The Georgian National Film Center has selected director Levan Koguashvili’s film Guria as Georgia’s submission for the Academy Awards, where it will compete in the International Feature Film category.

Five films participated in the selection competition organized by the Georgian National Film Center: The Moon Is My Father, directed by Giorgi Ovashvili and produced by Vagoneti LLC; Phase, directed by Nino Basilia and produced by NB Studio LLC; Share Love, directed by Nikoloz Khomasuridze and produced by Nikolozfilms LLC; Supporting Role, directed by Ana Urushadze and produced by Zazafilms LLC; and Guria, directed by Levan Koguashvili and produced by Kino Iberika.

The film was selected by a commission through a secret ballot. The commission was headed by Levan Dvali, Director of Programs at the Georgian National Film Center.

Screenings for the selection of Georgia’s Oscar submission were held with the support of the National Archives of Georgia.

Guria will have its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival.

The film is a co-production between seven countries: Georgia, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Norway, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia.
